1st Open Air on Friday Night at Street Fair 3rd & Roosevelt
The first one to come forward was a young man who raised his hand & said he was. I asked him to step forward and that I was going ask him some of God's Ten Commandments to validate his claim. The crowd who was around him would also help in the decision process. I have done this many times and never had anyone refuse to go through a few of the Ten Commandments. This young man's name was Chris and admitted to lying, stealing, and adultery in his heart. His attitude on how he answered those questions was very obvious that he was arrogant & prideful, as he stood there with his arms folded and a sneer on his face.
It was obvious that he wasn't concerned that he had violated God's Laws. I then challenged him that if he were caught doing 100 miles an hour at this fair and was now standing in front of a Maricopa County Judge he would not be so flippant about responding to the judge stating what he did was very dangerous and the Judge was going to punish him by demanding a large fine and also prison time. At that point I think he got the message on what it meant to violate God's Law and how he would also be punished by being sent to Hell.
His demeanor started to change as his head started to bow down and his arms hung by his side. When I asked him if he knew what God did so that he wouldn't have to go to Hell, he said that God died for him. I then told him it was not God but that God sent His only begotten Son who committed no sin to take the punishment for all of our sins.
By Jesus paying the fine or doing the time would be as if when Chris was in front of the Judge and just as he was to pass sentence Jesus walked into the court room and stated that He would do the time and pay the fine so that Chris could now could be set free.
I wish I had a camera so you could have seen the look on Chris' face at that moment. He then said, I don't deserve the $10.00 because I have to pay my own fine & do the time.
I then told him how this $10.00 that he admitted that he didn't deserve was a paltry example of what Jesus' death & resurrection on the cross looked like. Yes he didn't deserve it as none of us do, but because of Christ's sacrifice on the cross, Chris would only have to reach up and take the money. I then explained that what Chris needed to do was to, as Jesus stated, repent, turn from, to have regret & remorse for what he had done by violating God's Law and place his trust in Jesus Christ alone.
Please pray for Chris that God shows him the truth about what it means to be, "born again".
